Obituary

John Carl Quandt, age 92, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 24, 2016, at Serenity Gardens Assisted Living of Gillett. John was born in Oconto County on October 31, 1924 to the late Chris and Anna (Zieries) Quandt. He was baptized on November 16, 1924 and confirmed on June 15, 1943 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, (Breed) Suring, Wisconsin. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After returning home, he worked with his father in the woods logging until the spring of 1955. He married Oriean Lambrecht on September 4, 1948 at Emmanuel Lutheran in Suring. The couple moved to Appleton in 1955, where John worked as a carpenter. In 1965, John went to work for the US Corps of Engineers. He became foreman of the construction and maintenance crew in 1968. After John retired on October 31, 1984, they moved back to the Suring area. He built his own log home where they lived for 20 years. John loved playing baseball, bowling, throwing horseshoes, fishing and hunting with his brothers. He was a member and past commander of the VFW Post #2119 in Mountain.

John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Oriean of Gillett; his daughter, Lori (Stacen) Rhine of Buffalo, MO; two grandsons, John (Dasha) Quandt of Oshkosh, Daniel (special friend, Diane) Sommerfeld of Dale, WI; two great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons. John is also survived by three sisters, Luella (Chester) Schuettpelz of Suring, Edna (Roman) Gipp of Green Bay and Dorothy (Richard) Witt of Green Bay; three brothers, Gerald (Geraldine) Quandt of Green Bay, Melvin (Jean) Quandt of Suring and Orville (Bette) Quandt of Suring; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Quandt of Suring, Audrey Lambrecht of Mountain; brother-in-law, Milon Lambrecht also of Mountain, as well as many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Keith in 1982; grandson, Robert in 1984; brother, James in 2014; sister-in-law, Geraldine Lambrecht; brothers-in- law, Vernon Lambrecht, Shryl "Shelly" Lambrecht, Torris "Snick" Lambrecht, Veryl "Buckshot" Lambrecht; and two God-children, Randy Gipp and Cathy Godin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 13346 County Road AA in (Breed) Suring, with Pastor Paul Scheunemann officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Breed Union Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the VFW and American Legion. Swedberg Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Memorial funds may be directed to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Breed.
