John Bernard "Naeqtam piet" Reiter, age 97 of Keshena, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013. Born on March 25, 1916 in Neopit, John is the son of the late Antone and Susan (Cardish) Reiter. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII when he was drafted in August of 1941 until his discharge in February of 1946. John and Davey Jean O'Kimosh were united in marriage in Hannaville, Upper Michigan; she preceded him in death on October 13, 2010. On January 19, 2008, John Reiter Appreciation Day was declared. John was one of the founders and an active member of the Menominee American Legion and the Menominee Veterans Association. Prior to his death, John was the oldest living Menominee male and he was recently honored when the Menominee School District named their apple orchard after him. John is preceded in death by his wife, Davey Jean; his parents, Antone and Susan; 6 brothers and sisters, Louis, James "Jimmy", Francis, Antone "Cony", Mary and Helen. John is survived by numerous relatives and several special families including: Mr. and Mrs. Richard O'Kimosh, Sr.; Richard O'Kimosh, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. James Reiter; Dawn Reiter; Kristin Boivin; Diane (Mike Reiter) O'Kimosh and special friend, Peggy Kohus. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2013 at the St. Michael's Parish Hall with Dave "Nahwahkwaeh" Grignon officiating. Visitation will be held at the hall on Sunday, May 12, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. until the service on Monday. Military rights will be conducted by the Veterans of the Menominee Nation and the Menominee American Legion Post #497.
