Obituary

John Tomasich, age 84 of the Town of Richmond, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2013 in Bradenton, FL. Born on July 11, 1928 in East Chicago, IN, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Lukacek) Tomasich. After graduating from high school, John enlisted with the United States Army and served with the Army Air Borne for 16 ½ months during World War II where he was a member of the 187 Parachute Infantry Regime stationed in Japan. After his honorable discharge from service, John furthered his education. In 1952 he was united in marriage to Grace Schmidt. Together the couple raised their 4 children in the Shawano area where John worked for the Shawano School District as a business manager. He later became the Assistant Superintendent of Schools. In 1976 he went to work for the Menominee School District and helped get the funding for the new high school and later became Menominee's first Superintendent. Grace preceded John in death in 1979. After leaving the Menominee School District, John became the consultant for the Lac De Flambeau district. He married Helen Ledvina who also preceded him in death. In 2004 John was united in marriage to Betty (nee Noak) Meyers. The couple lived in the Shawano area and wintered in Florida. They enjoyed their extensive travels together. While still working with the school district, John became part owners of Stan and Bud's. After he retired from his career in education, John bought a business on North Main Street in Shawano known as Captain's Cove. He later sold the business and retired for good. John is survived by: his wife, Betty; his 4 children, Jeanne (Guy) Porter, Susan Tomasich, John (Francesca) Tomasich, Nancy (Jim) Ainsworth; and his 6 grandchildren. He is further survived by: 8 step children; many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; 2 brothers-in-law; 2 sisters-in-law; and numerous cousins. John was also preceded in death by: a sister, Margaret Ispas; and 5 brothers-in-law. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with the Rev. Len Evers officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 10am until the time of the service. Military Rites will be conducted by the Shawano American Legion Post #117 at the church following the service.
