June M. Ponfil, age 79 of Keshena, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 15, 2018 in Appleton. June was born on June 2, 1939 in Keshena, daughter of the late John and Edmere (Longley) Waubanascum, Sr. June was united in marriage to Rodger Ponfil, Sr. in Keshena. June was nurturing, loving and had room in her heart for all of her family, taking care of all of her nieces and nephews. Being very religious, she was a devout catholic and a faithful member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit. June enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino and watching Dancing with the Stars.
June is survived by: her children, Rodger Ponfil, Jr., Diane (Stein Stephens) Ponfil, Robert (Rose James) Ponfil and Doreen Ponfil; adopted children, Mary "Pie" (Duane "Buckle") Waukau, Loretta Menchaca and Ian Borhigi; several grandchildren, including special grandson, Rico Menchaca; brothers, Edmund Waubanascum, Sr., Michael Waubanascum and Peter Waubanascum, Sr.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including special niece, Rose Cantrell.
She was preceded in death by: her former husband, Rodger Ponfil, Sr.; her parents; her sisters, Thelma Neosh, Dorthea Soman and Mary Miller; her brothers, John Waubanascum, II and Randy Waubanascum in infancy.
Funeral services for June will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit with Fr. Joel Jores officiating. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Leah Waubanascum residence, N432 Chief Tomau Rd., Warrington Addition beginning at 6:00 pm on Monday, September 17, 2018 until the procession leaves for the church on Wednesday. A wake service will be held at the Waubanascum residence on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
