Karen L. Dey, age 65 of Shawano, passed away Friday, April 27, 2012 at a local nursing home. Born on June 21, 1946 in Shawano, she was the daughter of the late Emil P. and Frieda (Pieper) Dey, Sr. After graduating from high school and obtaining her Associate's Degree from NWTC, Karen received her Bachelor's Degree at Alverno College. She then attended one of the first Associate Nursing post graduate Neurological Classes in England. Upon her return, she attended the University of WI Milwaukee and focused on gerontology studies, chronic disabilities and rehab nursing. She finally obtained her Master's Degree in nursing education and administration from the University of Phoenix. Upon completion of her education, Karen worked as an RN with all types of Hospice settings. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano as well as the Ascension Church in Milwaukee where she was active in the Social Outreach program. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Humane Society in Shawano and the Red Cross in Green Bay. Karen is survived by: a sister, Elaine (Ronald) Koebernik of FL and Rhinelander; and a brother, Emil A. Dey, Jr. of Marion. Karen was preceded in death by: her parents; and a brother, Edward Dey. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Peter L. Sherven officiating.
