Karen Nannette Galbraith, age 80 of Shawano, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2019 in Oshkosh surrounded by family and friends. Karen was born in Shawano on April 10, 1939, to the late William and Viola (Passehl) Koehler. She graduated from Shawano High School in 1957. She continued her education at Columbia School of Nursing and graduated in 1959. Karen was united in marriage to Brian H. Galbraith on April 8, 1961 at St. James Lutheran Church – Shawano. She worked for several years at Shawano Community Hospital, first as a nursing assistant and continue working as a registered nurse after her graduation. While she enjoyed working in the hospital her greatest passion was working in homecare and hospice. She eventually retired the summer of 2003 after over 50 years of working as a nurse. Karen enjoyed traveling spending time with her family and friends, boating, and gardening. She was a member of Shawano Lake Lioness, as an active member for over 25 years she participated with the many raffles, craft sales, fair stands, and other fund raising activities that supported the local community.
Karen is survived by: her children, Lisa (Joe) Huston, Sr. of Deerfield, Lynn (Mike) Galbraith-Wilson of Janesville and Jennifer Galbraith of Neenah; her grandchildren, Joe, Jr., Andrea, Nichole, Kendall and Travis and great grandchildren Wyatt and Audrey. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother Jack Koehler.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano with Pastor Mark Drengler officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the physicians and staff at Aurora Medical Center Oshkosh, Evergreen Rehabilitation, and the Waterford of Oshkosh.
