Kay Francine (Viitanen) Capion, age 65, of Shawano, died on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 in Appleton. Kay was born on November 19, 1949 to the late Roy and Violet (Wendt) Viitanen in Chicago. When she was 5, her family moved to Wisconsin, where she was raised in Clintonville. She graduated from Clintonville High School in 1968. On September 20, 1969 she was united in marriage to Clayton Balke at St. Martin Lutheran Church. She was then united in marriage to Don Capion on June 16, 1989 at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. She trained as an emergency medical technician and volunteered with two ambulance companies for eight years. She also trained as a medical technician and worked for 15 years at Shawano Medical Center. Kay was a volunteer with the Girl scouts, bloodmobile and cystic fibrosis. Kay is survived by her husband of 26 years, Don; her daughters, Dr. KrisTina (Balke) Rodriguez of Aliso Viejo, CA and Marisa (Balke) Naeyaert and her husband Neal of Shawano; one grandchild, Audrey Naeyaert; her sister, Denise Viitanen of Clintonville; her aunts, Lois, Doris (Martin), Eleanor, and Jane; her uncles, Donald (Gerri) and Marvin; her former husband, Clayton Balke; as well as numerous cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Arnold Viitanen. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2015 at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano with Rev. Ted Andrada officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Clintonville. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and again at the church on Friday from 9:30a.m. until the time of the service.
