Obituary

Kenneth John "Ken" Bond, age 80 of Shawano, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 in Shawano. Born on June 7, 1933 in Chicago, he was the son of the late Casper and Rose (Wasielewski) Bond. After graduating from high school, Ken furthered his education, earning a doctorate in philosophy. He worked as a college instructor and as a Superintendent of schools throughout Illinois, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Colorado and Indiana. He especially enjoyed the times he worked in the Native American communities. On July 19, 2001 Ken was united in marriage to Sharon L. Dodge in Las Vegas. The couple renewed their vows in the presence of the family and friends on November 15, 2008. Ken enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle, as well as traveling, spending time with his grandchildren, watching movies and going to the theater. He was an avid Chicago sports fan and loved attending Cubs games at Wrigley Field. Ken found the "good" in everyone and was a natural born comedian whose wonderful sense of humor will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Ken is survived by: his wife, Sharon; her children, Bobbi Dodge of Green Bay, Serena Hernandez of Green Bay, Todd Otradovec, Sr. of Gresham, Jennifer (Jeremiah) Moses of Shawano; 4 children from his previous marriage, Kimberly Starosto of IL, Kristie Ebel of IL, Kenneth Bond of IL, and Kori (Richard) Buffini of IL; 16 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and 2 brothers, Gilbert (Lynne) Bond of NV and Russell Bond of IL. Ken was preceded in death by: 2 grandchildren, Erinn Leigh and Victor, Jr.; his parents; his beloved sister, Lorraine (Edward) Rekar; and a brother-in-law, Don Tabler. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Luke Ferris officiating. Burial will be in the St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Neopit. Visitation will be held at the funeral home in Shawano on Wednesday from 4:00-7:00pm and on Thursday from noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to ROADS (Reaching Out About Depression and Suicide) or Shawano Dollars for Scholars. www.swedbergfuneralhome.com
