IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry S.
Marcks
November 18, 1943 – November 10, 2022
Larry S. Marcks, age 78 of Gresham, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at his home. He was born on November 18, 1943, to the late Sylvester and Dorothy (Cotter) Marcks in Shawano. Larry was united in marriage to Sharon Belongia in 1964. She preceded him in death in 1994. On May 10, 1997, Larry was united in marriage to Ann Marie Lacy at Salem United Methodist Church in Red River.
Larry was born and raised in Shawano. He spent his early youth hunting, fishing and hanging out with Grampa Cotter, who instilled in him the life lesson of never buying something " you can fix or make". Graduating from high school, he started working for Mel Knope, learning sheet metal. He worked for Orv Bohm, learning about concrete. Refining these skills, he worked his way into carpentry. He became a master at all. Perfection defined his craft. Perfection paved the way for his artistic abilities to shine thru in his one-of-a-kind carvings of waterfowl. His oiled and painted ducks, geese, loons and swans sold thru out the country and he became known as "the duck guy". He was often seen at art shows whittling away with his jack knife and people just watched him work. All of Larry's life was spent around horses, starting from the age of 12 when he led trail rides at the Circle C Ranch at Shawano Lake. His knowledge of horses and training would soon be as well-known as his carving. After his marriage to Ann, the couple refurbished the farm into a horse boarding facility and Larry retired from construction work and stayed at the farm to run the ranch. Of course, beef cattle were always in the scene. Hard to picture Larry without horses and cattle. Larry loved the farm life no matter the hard work. He loved the western way of life, and you could always see that in the way he dressed. He was a cowboy and proud of it. Larry and Ann loved traveling west to Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Oklahoma and Colorado to see friends and the world God had created. He always said, "there is nothing East of the Mississippi I want to see, it is all West". Larry was a strong, loving man but could not beat the odds with pancreatic cancer. As he reached the Gates of Heaven there was a great commotion. The Lord came to see what was happening. There sat a handsome man with a big hat, long twirling mustache, large belt buckle and very tall boots, riding spirited horse. "What's going on? asked the Lord. "Lord, I am true and faithful servant and have come home". "Well," said the Lord questioning what he was seeing. "I am a package deal" said Larry. " Truly you are" said the Lord. "Come Home".
Larry is survived by: his wife, Ann; children, Jaemy (Brad) Eggum and Jody (Trina) Marcks; granddaughter, Hannah Eggum; and siblings, Jim, Diana, Linda and Patricia. He is further survived by friends and family.
He was preceded in death by: his first wife, Sharon; parents, Sylvester and Dorothy Marcks; and siblings, Devera and Joan.
A funeral service for Larry will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Salem United Methodist Church in Red River with Pastor Dan Kim officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
