Obituary

Larry Dean Murdock, Sr., age 92, of Shawano, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016 in Appleton. Larry was born in Shawano, on August 18, 1924, the son of the late Earl Murdock and Hertha (Schaar) Natzke. He graduated from Shawano High School in 1942 and entered the United States Army and served in active duty from June 27, 1944 – April 12, 1946 in the 10 th Mt. Division regiment 86B. On March 26, 1949, Larry was united in marriage to Janet Malueg in Marion. Janet preceded him in death on May 31, 1994. Larry was a letter carrier for 26 years. After retirement, he farmed before he and his brother-in-law, David Malueg built a sawmill and created M&M Lumber. He always had an active mind and was ready to build anything; building both of his homes on Hickory Road and an A-frame cottage on Boulder Lake. Larry and Janet spent all summer at their cottage. He always had an open door in which everyone was welcome.
Larry is survived by: three sons, Louis (Joanne) Runge of Sobieski, Larry Murdock, Jr. of Shawano, and Terry Murdock of Waupaca; two daughters, Debra (Dave) Webster of Shawano and Laurie (Mike Lohrengel) Murdock of Shawano; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Jennifer, Amanda, Michael, Tim, Jim and Steve; nine great-grandchildren; three great- great-grandchildren. He is further survived by two brothers, Kent (Betty) Murdock of Shawano and Donald Murdock of Shawano; sisters-in-law, Ginny Malueg, Sylvia Malueg; one brother-in-law, Robert Malueg; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and very good friend Shane.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; one grandson, Joshua David Murdock; his parents; four brothers-in-law, Bernard, Eugene, Dave and Jerry Malueg; three sisters-in-law, Vira Murdock, Mootsie Malueg and Janice Malueg.
Funeral services for Larry will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at First Presbyterian Church in Shawano with Rev. Susan Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano from 4:00 – 7:00 pm and again on Thursday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Military Honors will be conducted by the Shawano American Legion. Memorials may be directed to a Veteran's charity of your choice.
