Laurie Barnes, age 72, of Keshena, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2019 in Appleton. Born on January 21, 1947 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late John and Flora (Barnes) Shawanopenass. Laurie grew up in Keshena. She worked for Krueger Metal in Green Bay, Menominee School District, Menominee police dispatch and Menominee Casino as a Pit Boss until retirement. She enjoyed bead working, native history, the outdoors and most of all spoiling her grandchildren. Laurie was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church – Keshena.
Laurie is survived by: her daughters, Beth (Ron) Waukau of Keshena and Patricia Schanandore of Middle Village; grandchildren, Carlese Tourtillott, Brianna Waukau, Charlene Tourtillott, Ronald "RJ" Waukau Jr. and Brayden Waukau; great grandchildren, Anastasia Pernu and Andre Basina; siblings, Roberta Grignon of Keshena, Toni (Ken) Bundick of Omro, Ardith (Darwin) Barnes of Shawano, Mario Munoz of Keshena, Kristie (Larry) Lindner of Shawano and John Martin of Bowler; great aunt Cynthia Gauthier of Keshena and former husband Dewey Schanandore of Green Bay. Laurie is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by: parents, step father Frank Munoz, grandson Lance Fish, niece Tammy Lett and brother-in-law Guy Grignon.
A funeral mass for Laurie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Keshena, with Father Joel Jores officiating. Visitation will be held at the Patricia Schanandore residence, N2075 Hickory Street, Middle Village, from 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 3, 2019 until procession leaves for church on Wednesday, June 5, 2019. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at the Patricia Schanandore residence, N2075 Hickory Street, Middle Village. Swedberg Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Amy Slagle and the staff at Shawano Medical Center, Appleton Medical Center and Froedtert Hospital for Laurie's care.
