LaVerne Margaret Kakwitch, age 65, of Gillett, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020 in Shawano. LaVerne was born on June 11, 1954, in Keshena, to the late Elmer and Edith (Oshkenaniew) Kakwitch. She loved to travel, her broom took her everywhere. Her favorite place to travel was in California, helping her sister Tonia with her children and helping around her house. She loved working, she worked at several jobs on the reservation which led her to meet several people in her life. She enjoyed spending time with her family including her nieces and nephews.

LaVerne is survived by: her children, Joseph, Daniel, Kristin, Sammie and Merle (Tristen) III; her grandchildren, Aliah, Joe, Lincoln, Shalissa, Desereé, Katie, Elih, Raneta, Justin, Eva, Roxy, Precious, Majestic, Jasper, Alec, Ta-Lon, Temperance, Taya, Merle IV, Tonia, and special granddaughter Sandra Rose;  her siblings, Robert Kakwitch, Sr., Elmer Kakwitch, Sr., Norman Kakwitch, Evanell Sanapaw, and Tracy Kakwitch; her only uncle, Norman Pyawasay; BFF Auntie Brenda; and her extended family –  Summers, Websters, and Pamonicutt families. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; Tonia; Ricky; Sandy; Eric; and special friend, Eli Webster.

A family gathering and pot luck will be held in LaVerne's memory from noon until 3:00 pm, on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at the Neopit Community Center.
