Lawrence Robert Klapper, age 85, of Cecil, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 14, 2015, at Shawano Medical Center with family members at his side. Lawrence was born on November 15, 1929, in the family farmhouse in the Township of Green Valley to the late Leonard and Hattie (Schuettpelz) Klapper. On September 5, 1959, Lawrence was united in marriage to Jean Ellen Brecken and they were blessed to have recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. Together they continued the Klapper farm legacy by owning and operating North Ridge Dairy Farm near Cecil, WI. Lawrence was a stellar example of unconditional love for his family. A farmer all his life, he happened to be born into the profession he loved most. He was an honest, hard-working gentleman who rarely complained. He participated in his church dartball league for over 60 years, and enjoyed 'Card Club' with the same eight couples his whole married life. Lawrence loved the outdoors, dogs, hunting, corn flakes, and toast buttered to the edge. He was a man of few wordsbut those words were often witty or profound. The sadness we feel is overcome by fond memories and faith that the best is yet to come. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Jean Ellen; three daughters, Vicki Rae (Keith) Harkonen of Green Bay, Tammy Faye (Mark) Wozniak of Sobieski, and Lisa Kay Lartius of Arlington, VA.; his grandchildren, Brandon William Harkonen and his wife Kaitlynn, Brent Lawrence Harkonen, Travis Lawrence Wozniak and his wife Bethany, and Mackenzie Raye Wozniak; two sisters, Alice Brick of Seymour and Marcella (Len) Prahl of Shawano, as well as numerous friends and family who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Allen Klapper, two brothers-in-law, Earl Brick and Gordon Timmers; and one sister-in-law, Louise Klapper. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2015, at Swedberg-Zastrow Funeral Home in Cecil with Rev. Bruce Blocker officiating. Burial will be in Advance Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, September 18, 2015, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staffs of The Cottages Assisted Living and Shawano Medical Center for the excellent care they provided for Lawrence.
