Obituary

Leatha Ann Grinhaug, age 75, passed away on Friday March 8, 2024, at her home in Keshena surrounded by her family. Leatha was born on February 10, 1949, in Keshena to the late Alex and Sarah (Warrington) Waupoose. She attended Shawano High School from 1963 until 1966, then graduated from Gresham High School in 1967. Leatha received a degree in Clerk Typist Program from North Central Technical Institute in 1978. She continued her education at
Northeast Wisconsin Technical Institute graduating from the Practical Nursing Program in 1982. Leatha worked at Pine Manor Nursing Home for three years before working at Menominee Tribal Clinic for 27 years until her retirement in 2012. She was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 46 and was in remission for 16 years. Eventually the cancer returned as stage 4 in 2012. Leatha lived with cancer for 28 years. In 2012, she joined the St. Kateri Prayer Circle giving her the chance to serve our Lord through prayer. The Lord gave Leatha a career as a nurse to serve the sick and needy especially the gift of praying for and taking care of the Menominee People. Her family and friends asked her how she made it through all the hard years this was her response, " God had things he needed me to do, and it was an honor to serve him". Leatha will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Leatha is survived by her husband, Gregory Grinhaug; children, Jennifer (David) Terrio, Bronson (Maggie) Menore; grandchildren, Rupert (Nicole), Mariah (Michael), Brooke (Dylan) and Autumn (PJ); great-grandchildren, Xavionna, Shayden, Brooklynn, Brian, Bronson, Bentley, Penelope, Jenny, Asanih, Evelyn, Mary Ann, Mia, Jade, Evalynn and Jane; siblings, Rosemary Gengler and Lowell "Chopper" Waupoose; and special niece/sister, Gloria Jean Gierach.

Leatha is preceded in death by parents, Alex and Sarah Waupoose,17 brothers and sisters, and stepson Anthony "Tony Jo" Madosh.

A funeral service for Leatha will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday March 13, 2024, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Keshena with Fr. Hanz Christian officiating. Visitation will be held at Fr. David Barrett Hall starting on Monday March 11, 2024, from 3:00 pm until the time of service on Wednesday. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in the Town of Bartelme.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff and doctors at St. Vincents and St. Mary's for the wonderful guidance through the years. They would also like to give a heartfelt thank you to the Unity Hospice staff as well as Jerry Waupoose, Tracy Wilber, Michelle Wilber, Carrie Wilber, Gloria Jean Gierach, Sharon Waupoose for their extended care of Leatha. Also, Dave, Missy, and Dylan Johnson for helping with building the casket.
