Obituary

Leila Marie "Chip" Rabideaux, age 84, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, December 5, 2021.  Chip was born on January 19, 1937, to the late Alex and Sarah Josephine (Warrington) Waupoose, Sr. in Keshena. When Chip was younger, she learned to hunt and fish with her brothers in South Branch.  She loved to Jig and enjoyed playing piano and making music with her father and brothers who were fiddlers. Chip took great pride in her home and her yard, and they were always neat and well kept. She was a private person but was very welcoming and loving at the same time. Selfless with her care for those she loved, Chip was very proud of her children and grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic and had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother. She was a lifetime member of the St. Michael Catholic Church and a member of the St. Kateri Prayer Circle. She enjoyed the simple things in life such as one of her favorite dishes, oatmeal and bacon grease.

Chip is survived by her children: Michael (Brad) Waupoose, Renee (Eric) Baryenbruch, Cheryl (Jeff) Lebakken, Janice Rabideaux, Kristine (John) Rabideaux-Wade, Darin "D.J." (Brenda) Rabideaux, Paula Rabideaux, and Thomas (Deana) Rabideaux, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters, Rosemary Waupoose Gengler, Leatha Waupoose Grinhaug, Ivan Waupoose, Sr., Lowell Waupoose, and Jerome Waupoose.

She is preceded in death by two sons, Donald Rabideaux in infancy and Franklin "Chunk" Rabideaux, Jr., her parents, as well as brothers and sisters, Gordon Waupoose, Sr., Alex Waupoose, Jr., Leroy J. Waupoose, Irvin Waupoose, Sr., Everette Waupoose, Sr., Xavier Waupoose, Delores Edith Waupoose Koszarek, Gloria Waupoose Herrera, Romilda Waupoose Wilson, Patricia Waupoose Hayes, and Antionette Waupoose Wilber.  She is further preceded by three siblings in infancy, Edward Waupoose, Vivian Waupoose, and Kenneth Waupoose.

A Funeral Mass for Chip will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Keshena with Fr. Hanz Christian officiating. Burial will be in the St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in the Spring. Visitation will be held at the Father David Barrett Parish Hall in Keshena on Monday from 6:00 pm until the time of the service on Wednesday.  The St. Kateri Prayer Circle will conduct a Parish Wake Service at 7:00pm on Tuesday.
