Obituary

Leo Antonio Escalante age 2, began his journey to the spirit world, dancing in the sky on Monday June 23, 2025, in Milwaukee. Leo was born in one of the worst snowstorms on March 25, 2023, in Green Bay to Deziray Sanapaw and Ethan Escalante. He had a laugh and smile that were contagious. When he first started walking he was "side stepping baby" from the very beginning. He loved dancing most of all and his family always enjoyed his singing. Leo was grandpa's "special baby guy" and grandma's "nugga bear". Leo was a boy that was a master tooth brusher and was notorious for his stinky toes. He would always follow grandma around with his toy drill and tool belt and was ready to fix any mistakes. Leo loved playing outside, listening to Pow Wow music, reading with his momma, and watching his toon toons. Leo was a smart boy that displayed empathy for anyone having a hard time and would always try to cheer them up. He was a troublemaker; one instance being the time he got into a bucket of paint. Overall, he loved his numerous aunties and uncles dearly. Leo was a beautiful baby boy who left the biggest impact on his family's life and will be deeply missed.

Leo is survived by his parents, Deziray and Ethan; sister, Milena Escalante; grandparents, Whitney Sanapaw, Kenneth Boyd and Antonio Escalante; great-grandparents, Barbara Fish and Fay and Anthony Waupochick, Sr.; great-great-grandmother, Mary E. Fish; aunts and uncles, Taylor, Katie Jo, Jay'r, Anastasia, Brayden, Tristan, Truly, Nicole, Elijah, Brielle, Nekah, Jayden, Faith, Vincent and Stuwart; and special aunt, Misty Curry.

Leo is preceded in death by his grandparents, Bobby Joe Sanapaw, Linda "Amy" Dickenson, John "J.R." Boyd, Joseph "Little Jo" Sanapaw, Joey "Papa" Sanapaw, Margaret "Grandma Sauce" Sanapaw, Maria Escalante; aunt, Elinna Sanapaw; and uncle, Taylor Waupochick.

A funeral mass for Leo will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday June 29, 2025, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Fr. Hanz Christian officiating. Visitation will be held at Neopit Community Center starting on Friday June 27, 2025, at 6:00 pm and continuing until the time of service on Sunday.
