Leon Robert Kabat age 85, passed away on Monday July 15, 2024, in Shawano, WI.  Leon was born on October 12, 1938, in Manitowoc, WI to the late Leonard and Myrtle (Kieselhorst) Kabat.  He graduated from Lincoln High School. On August 13, 1960, Leon was united in marriage to Barbara Joan Schipper in Manitowoc. In June 1961 he received his degree in Forestry from Michigan Technological University. He spent his entire 33-year career with the Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management.  He started as a forester in Coos Bay, OR before becoming a Land and Mineral Specialist which took him to CA, DC and back to WI.  After retirement in 1990 he and Barbara came to their favorite place Shawano to build their retirement home.  For a number of years, he used his expertise to design and teach courses for the Bureau of Indian Affairs around the country.  Most of all he did what he loved doing the most; spending time with his family, expanding his rock and mineral collection and hunting and fishing.

Leon is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Dan (Jackie) Kabat and Nancy (Dan) Hanyzewski; two grandchildren, Tucker (Bridget) and Jenna (Dan) Birtwell; five great grandchildren; Aidan, Quinn, Grace, Skye and Sonny and two step grandchildren, Nathan (Plami) Hanyzewski and Tyler Hanyzewski and one step great grandchild; Natalie.
