Leon Lenor Stuewer, age 83, of Bonduel found his home in heaven on Sunday, May 10, 2026, at his home after enduring significant health challenges over the past two plus years. Leon was born on January 30, 1943, in Shawano, to the late Lenor and Linda (Boerst) Stuewer. He graduated from Bonduel High School in 1961. Leon was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel; he was a man whose deeply rooted faith in God had no peer. On July 21, 1974, he was united in marriage to Donna Oppermann at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano.
Leon was best known as a deeply religious dairy farmer who loved bowling. He was an avid bowler and served in leadership roles for many different leagues and served as the president of the Shawano Bowling Association. He is an inductee of the Shawano Bowling Association’s Hall of Fame. While never hitting a perfect game, he was a very solid bowler and traveled all over the country attending national bowling tournaments.
Leon enjoyed local stock car racing; attending at least one race at the Shawano Fairgrounds for eight consecutive decades. Some years he never missed a night and in others he might not make it once but very few could lay claim to an 8-decade run at one racetrack. Outside of his son, Tony, his granddaughter, Karah, and brother-in-law, Mark Adkins, he couldn’t say that he had a favorite driver. He simply enjoyed the sport.
Above all though, Leon was a supporter of anything related to the Bonduel athletic and academic community. With his sister, Dianne Adkins, he rarely missed a BHS football or basketball game. In more recent years he developed a greater appreciation for volleyball. Depending on the schedule, Dianne and Leon would be at little league games, legion games, and would follow the Bonduel, Cecil, and Navarino teams of the Dairyland baseball league.
Leon supported education, he served on the board of Christian Education at St. Paul Lutheran School and as president of the Bonduel School Board. He was a strong proponent of public and parochial school collaboration. Leon took pride in knowing that he raised his family to have a strong faith in God.
Leon is survived by his wife of 51 years, Donna; children, Pam (Mark) Wilson, Greg (Wendy) Stuewer and Bob (Robin) Stuewer; grandchildren, Erik (Samantha) Stuewer, Erin (Collin Rodgers) Stuewer, Terra (Ali) Askar, Jena (Cynthia) Rock, Karah (Noah Samolinski) Peterson, Caitlin (Haley) Stuewer, Kody (Kaylee Lang) Stuewer and Carly Stuewer; great-grandchildren, Mason, Riley, Ivy, Hudson, Rayyan, Ryid, Tomas and Greyson; sister, Dianne Adkins. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Leon has been welcomed by his son, Anthony Stuewer; parents, Lenor and Linda Stuewer; great-grandson Wesley; sister, Marian Monroe; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Nelda and Wilbur Oppermann; brother-in-law, Mark Adkins; and sister-in-law Dotti Andersen.
A funeral service for Leon will be held at noon on Monday, May 18, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel with Pastor Ryan Fehrmann officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9:30 am until the time of service. Burial will be held at the church cemetery following the service.
