Obituary

Leona Rae “Onie” Sanapaw, age 75, of Keshena passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at her home surrounded by family. Leona was born on April 9, 1951, in Keshena to the late Jerome and Marceline (Kinepoway) Sanapaw. She lived in Keshena her whole life; where she took great pride in her Menominee culture singing with the drums and attending Powwows. In Leona’s free time, she enjoyed playing bingo, and going to the casino. She was a lifetime member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Keshena.

Leona is survived by her children, Lauren (April) Sanapaw, Kinepoway Valliere, Jason Sanapaw and Pebbles Sanapaw; special daughter and namesake, Leona “Lovey” Draghi; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and siblings, Shelby (Les) Kaquatosh, Barbara (Wayne) Wheelock, Alberta (Al) Zhuckkahosee and Deborah Long-Lyons; special niece, Gena Kakkak; and family friend, Michael Arch. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Leona is preceded in death by her siblings, Raymond, Marlene, Irene, Joey, Leroy, Benny, Isabelle, Patsy, Jerry and Richard “Rocky”; and parents, Jerome and Marceline Sanapaw.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Keshena with Fr. Hanz Christian officiating. Visitation will be held at her home at W2687 Chief Wis Ke Noh Court Keshena, WI 54135, starting on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 2:00 pm until 10:30 am on Thursday morning when the procession leaves for the church. Prayer service will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at her home. Burial will be held at Our Lady of the Woods Cemetery.
