Lisa Waukau, "Nehaeqsnemetaemoh", born Lee Suzanne Waukau, began her journey to the Spirit World Saturday, June 18, 2016.
Lisa was born on December 26, 1944 to the late Dolores K. Boyd and Lloyd Waukau.
Lisa dedicated her life to public service to the Menominee people.
She helped shape the lives of over 1000 Menominee children during her 37 years as a teacher at Menominee Indian High School.
Lisa was passionate about the course she taught that every junior had to take, and still has to take:
Menominee History.
She wanted every student to know their tribal history, and that it was the correct history.
Her students also knew that Ms. Waukau would have a quiz waiting for them on Monday if the Green Bay Packers lost on Sunday!
Lisa continued her service to the Menominee people by running for the Menominee Tribal Legislature in the early 1990's.
Just as she did with her teaching, Lisa gave 100% of herself to the work she did on the legislature.
She served in many different capacities while on the legislature; she was Secretary, Vice Chairwoman, Chairwoman as well as being on multiple committees throughout her tenure.
Lisa was proud of her 18 years on the legislature and when her cancer returned in January 2016, her goal was to be able to complete her last term.
Lisa was honored by the Menominee Tribal Legislature and the Menominee Tribe at her last Menominee Tribal Legislature meeting, February 4, 2016.
Family was everything to Lisa.
She enjoyed hosting many family gatherings at her home in downtown Keshena.
She celebrated Memorial Day in grand fashion; her yard and deck were always decorated and she always had John Phillip Sousa music playing in the background.
She enjoyed her last Memorial Day celebrating with her family.
Lisa is survived by three sisters and one brother:
