Lois Miller Welch "Wuskiiwapapatchkwuchahkeexkweew" "Wuskiiwapapatchkwuchahkeexkweew" ("Young White Buffalo Woman"), 91, of the Mohican Nation, passed on to the spirit world on Sunday, October 14, 2012 surrounded by family. She was born May 21, 1921, to Almeda (Quinney) and Delbert Miller in Red Springs, WI. She was united in marriage on January 10, 1942 to Leonard "Stub" Welch. Lois was well known for her bread making and fry bread throughout the community. She loved listening to country music, beading, word searches and going to Mohican North Star Casino with her sister, Shorty. Her doors were always open not only to her family but to many community friends of her children and grandchildren. She is survived by: 2 sons, Leonard (Molly) of Bowler, John (Laurie) of Brussels; 2 daughters, Lorraine and Lynne of Bowler. She is further survived by: 23 grandchildren, Punkin, CJ, Lenny, Brian, Rick, Kevin, Chad, Amy, Kristy, Tammy, Jeff, Rachel, Les Jr., Jo Jo, Biscuit, Candy, Lil Mann, Boober, Berta, Bud, Wendy, Crystal and Dusty; 54 great grandchildren; and 22 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Stub; 3 sons, Lyle "Joe", Leslie "Ike" and Delbert; her sister, Alberta "Shorty" Gulbronson; one Great Granddaughter, Rachel; and one Great Grandson, Dustin. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Lutheran Church of the Wilderness, Bowler with the Rev. Melinda Shriner officiating. Burial will be in the Stockbridge Indian Burial Grounds in the Town of Bartelme. Visitation will be held at the Leonard Bingo residence located at W12246 River Road, Bowler after 5pm on Tuesday until the procession leaves for the church on Thursday.
