Obituary

Louis Arthur "Neege" Washinawatok, Jr., age 91, passed away on Saturday December 30, 2023, surrounded by family at his home in Keshena. Neege was born on October 8, 1932, in Menominee County to the late Louis and Arline (Eastman) Washinawatok, Sr. He graduated from Shawano High School in 1950 then joined the United States Air Force. Neege served in the Korean Conflict and was able to witness a top-secret hydrogen bomb test. He returned to Menominee County and worked for the Menominee Tribe as a road crew and worked in the woods then worked three years on a pipeline in Alaska before starting his own business in 1976, doing septic system installation. Neege married Georgia Cardish, she preceded him in death in 2020. In his free time, he enjoyed Wisconsin sports, hunting, fishing, anything with horses and attending his grandchildren's sporting activities. Neege was an active member at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Keshena. He enjoyed being on the Honor Flight with his grandson.

Neege is survived by his children, Scott (Melissa) White, Robin White, Stuart (Nina) White, Richard (Carmen) Doss and Verdene (Adrian) Schlichting; eighteen grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Loren (Marcie) Washinawatok, Annette (Lee) Foster and Andrea White. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Neege is preceded in death by his granddaughters, Jamie Ermantinger and Jill Welch; brother, Lee (Jean) White; and parents, Louis, Sr. and Arline.

A funeral mass for Neege will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday January 3, 2024, at St. Michaels Catholic Church with Fr. Hanz Christian officiating. Visitation will be at the family residence at W2092 Keshena Lake Road in Keshena on Monday January 1, 2024, starting at 2:00 pm and continuing until the procession leaves for the church on Wednesday. Military Rites will be conducted by the Menominee Veterans following the services at the church.
