Lyle Harley Dumke passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on November 12, 2011, following a short battle with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia and heart failure. He was born on March 3, 1935 in Clintonville to Charles and Edna (Winge) Dumke and lived in the Tilleda/Bowler area most of his life. Lyle graduated from Bowler High School in 1952 and began his life's work of farming alongside his parents on the family farmstead. On June 18, 1955 he married Lorna Mae Klinner at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Wittenberg. Together they raised three children: Larry, LouAnn "Louie" and Lee. Lyle and Lorna, along with their children, and later with the help of their daughters-in-law, continued farming until their retirement. They also enjoyed 25 years "up north" at their cottage on Crane Lake, near Pickerel. Following Lorna's retirement as a schoolteacher, and Lyle's from farming, the couple then moved to Shawano in May of 2006. Lyle was active in the Town of Seneca and was a Shawano County Supervisor for many years. He enjoyed hunting, working in the woods, and playing cards, especially at the Hornet's Nest and in several card groups. He and Lorna were members of the Junior Sheepshead Group for over 50 years, as well as domino and poker clubs. Lyle could almost always be found fishing, whether up north on Crane Lake, just off the back of his docked pontoon boat on the channel, or somewhere out on the lake or river; he never turned down an invitation to go ice fishing or to go casting for the "big" ones on Lake Michigan or the Mississippi River. Lyle was very proud of his children, grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and never missed an opportunity to express his love for them. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Tilleda for 56 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Lorna Mae, who will miss him very much. Also survived by: his children, Larry (fiancé Lisa Dahlke)Dumke, Lee (Jean) Dumke, both of Tilleda, Louie Dumke of Neenah; grandchildren, Jesse (Kate) Dumke, Madison, Mandi (Victor) Murray, Shawano, Jana Dumke, Appleton, Nathan Dumke, Madison, William Dumke, Minneapolis, and Michael Dumke, La Crosse; great-granddaughters, Aibhilin and Olena Murray, Shawano; and the "Grand Hooligans", Vayder, Lex, Earl and Jackson, Louie's kitties. Further survived by: his sisters, Lathorial Wedman, Waupun, Joy (Junior) Buhrandt, Cecil and Bonnie Hoffman, Greenville; sisters-in-law, Elaine Beyersdorff, Pewaukee and Carol Klinner, Wittenberg; and many nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by close friends Bob and Joan Wohler of Shawano, and the remaining members of the Bowler Class of 1952, especially Mavis Wells. Lyle was preceded in death by: his parents, his mother and father-in-law, brothers-in-law, Leonard Preuss, Evan Wedman, Hilbert Klinner, and Wilfred Beyersdorff, sister-in-law Adeline Hazlett; and grandson, Curtis Dumke. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Tilleda with the Rev. Dennis Creswell officiating. Burial will be in the Seneca Emmanuel Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Monday from 4-7 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday after 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Fisherman's Prayer God grant that I may live To fish until my dying day And when my final cast is made I most humbly pray When in the Lord's landing net I am peacefully asleep That in His mercy I'll be judged Good enough to keep. Thanks to his wonderful family for such great support, especially Jean, for helping to care for Lyle at our home during his last few weeks, also to friends and neighbors for visiting, sending food and helping with yard work. Our deep appreciation also to the great care from Thedacare At Home, the Hospice nurses (especially Linda), the doctors and nurses at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton Medical Center and the Shawano Medical Center, and to Dr. Mindy Frimodig. www.swedbergfuneralhome.com
