Obituary

Lyle Nickodem, age 65, of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at his home in Shawano, WI. Lyle was born on September 12, 1959, in Green Bay to the late Antone "Tony" and Virginia (Van Iten) Nickodem. He graduated from Shawano High School in 1979. Music was a constant source of comfort and joy in Lyle's life. Whether he was playing his favorite records or singing along to classic tunes from his cassette tape collection, music brought him a sense of peace. Lyle had a special connection with animals, especially his beloved cat, Lucky. The bond they shared was one of unconditional love, and Lucky was a constant source of comfort and companionship. Lyle devoted many years as a caregiver for his aging parents at the family home on Loon Lake. In addition to his caregiving, Lyle took great pride in maintaining the property, ensuring the yard was always well-manicured each season.

But behind that caring nature, Lyle battled with his mental health. Despite the love and support surrounding him, the weight he carried became too much to bear.

Our hearts are heavy with grief, yet we also hold onto the positive memories Lyle brought into our lives. And this asks for our understanding: Everyone's life is its own mystery, and not always open to outside understanding. If there is one message we hope his story leaves behind, it is this: You are not alone. There is hope, and there is help. If you are struggling, please know that there are people who want to walk with you through the pain. Reach out to a friend, a family member, a counselor, a therapist — anyone who can help you see that there is a path forward.

Lyle is survived by his siblings, Judy North, Gary (Karen) Nickodem, Linda Nickodem-Berg, Ruth (Jeff) Brisk and Roger (Carrie) Nickodem. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Preceding Lyle in death are his parents, Tony and Virginia; and brothers-in-law, James North and Richard Berg.

We encourage donations to Mental Health America-Wisconsin in Lyle's honor, so that others may receive the care and support they deserve.

Private family services will be held.

When you feel like all hope is lost, there is still help available
