Mabel Bernice Johnson, age 89 passed away peacefully, with her family by her side on Monday September 3, 2012 at Oak Haven in Shawano. Mabel was born June 9, 1923 in the Town of Pella, the daughter of the late John and Alma (Wichman) Conradt. She graduated from Shawano High School in 1941 and worked as a secretary for FWD in Clintonville and then as a waitress at the Woodland in Gresham. On December 1, 1949 she married Dr. Ford Wayne Johnson. She went on to work as the head cook at the Gresham School until retirement. After retirement she went back to work part-time at the Woodland. She loved music and played banjo and saxophone with several area bands over the years. She especially enjoyed going to the casino with her good friend Mary Hanson and was an avid Packer and Brewer fan. Mabel will always be remembered as being a wonderful and outgoing person. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Gresham and was a member of the Ladies Aid. Mabel is survived by: her son, Ford Johnson, Jr. of Red River; her daughter Sonja Moede of Gresham; grandchildren Mikah Moede of Gresham, Misti (fiancé Josh Krause) Moede of Merril; and 3 great-grandchildren Austin, Arianna and Braiden Moede. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband Dr. Ford Johnson, Sr.; her son-in-law Allen "Wump" Moede; two brothers, Lawrence and Raymond Conradt; and two sisters, Mariena Reinke and Irma Lindow. Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 6, 2012 at 11am at Zion Lutheran Church in Gresham with Rev. John C. Eyer officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery in the Town of Hermansfort. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9:30am until the time of services.
