Marcella Rose "Marcie" Leitzke passed away on Monday, October 28, 2019 in Shawano. Marcie was born in Ogdensburg, Town of St. Lawrence, Waupaca County, Wisconsin on April 4 th , 1927 to Mark C. and Ethel J. (Anderson) Doughty. She graduated from Little Wolf High School in Manawa in 1944 and from The Business Institute of Milwaukee in 1945. Marcie was married to Larry F. Leitzke in Bonduel in 1946, together the couple raised 6 children on the family farm. Marcie was employed at WTCH, Shawano from 1965 to 1968 and at the Shawano Community Hospital from 1969 to 1981. After Larry retired from farming Marcie and Larry opened an antique business called The Old Granary, located in the barn on their farm. They enjoyed operating The Old Granary together until selling the farm and moving to Florida.
Marcie was a lifetime member of Wisconsin Fellowship of Poets (WFOP), Secretary of WFOP and National Federation of State Poetry Societies, (NFSPS). She published four books of Poetry, one book, "According to Matthew" (life according to her Down's syndrome son), and one cookbook, "Early 1900's Pantry Recipes". Marcie was a charter member of Shawano Area Writers beginning in 1966 and when she lived in Lake Placid Florida for several years she chartered The Ridge Area Writers in nearby Sebring Florida, both organizations are still active today. She volunteered at the Shawano Civic Center, working in the Meals on Wheels program, as well as in the Senior Gift Shop. Marcie played piano every Wednesday for the Chapel services at Evergreen Care Center, Birch Hill Care Center, and Manor Care for many years.
Marcie always said she was addicted to words. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble and wrote several columns, most recently, as a columnist in the Shawano Senior Leader. She had a passion for traveling and enjoyed touring Europe, England, Acapulco, Mexico, the Bahamas, the western United States, Costa Rica, Key West, Canada, Hawaii, and Jamaica. She is a member of Hope Community Church in Shawano, WI.
Marcie will be sadly missed by: her children, Dolly (Wayne) Schultz, West Bend, Dan (Debi) Leitzke, Roscoe IL, Angie (Merle) Schultz, Shawano, Sally (David) Richter, Navarino, Larry J. (Connie) Leitzke, Bonduel, and Matthew Leitzke, Bonduel; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Hansen, Menomonee Falls; as well as many nieces and nephews. Marcie is further survived by her dear trusted friend and travel companion since 2010, Dale Schwartzkopf.
She is preceded in death by: her husband, Larry Leitzke; a granddaughter, Jenny Leitzke; a grandson, Robert "Bobby" Richter; two brothers; one sister; and her parents.
A funeral service for Marcie will be held at Hope Community Church in Shawano at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 1, 2019 with Rev. John Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery in Bonduel. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
