Margie Charley (Hawpetoss) Marion, "Grammies", 68, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin. She was born on January 6, 1953 in Rehoboth, New Mexico, the daughter of Frank Charley and Grace T. Billy. She was a member of the Navajo Dine Nation. She spent her teenage summer years with her sister Lulah in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. She graduated from Gallup High School, Gallup New Mexico, in 1972, and then moved to Wisconsin. Margie attended UW-Milwaukee for Nursing and worked in the Nursing field throughout her life. She was one of the first Women Fancy Shawl Dancers in Wisconsin and traveled to pow-wows across Indian country in her younger years. She was a talented artist of Navajo rug weaving, beading, moccasin making, and ribbon work.
Margie is survived by her Sister: Ethelyn, her Brothers: Eugene & Larry, her Father Lee Billy, all from New Mexico.
Sons: Eric Gene (Keshena) and Demetrius Bear (Black River Falls), Daughter: Erica Jean (Black River Falls)
Her beloved grandchildren: Brandan Jay Jr., Danah Jay, Dancia Nizhoni, Bradley Sonny Bear, Raymond James, Gene James, Natalie Raylene, Serenity Bianca Grace, Jerrick Dale, and Jax Callel.
Great-Grandgirls: Eden RayeLynn & Iden Jean.
She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lulah and Fanny, brothers, Jerry and Harry, Son, Danah, and Grandson, William Allen.
The family would like to invite friends and family to a family gathering in honor of Margie at 11:00 am on Monday, December 20, 2021, at Swedberg funeral home in Shawano. Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, December 19, 2021. Visitation will begin again at 10:00 am on Monday until the time of service. Burial will be held at the Zoar Ceremonial Indian Burial Grounds following services.
The family would like all those who attend to be mindful of the Covid-19 health regulations and procedures.
