Obituary

Marilyn M. Dahl, age 87, of Bowler, passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at her home with her daughter and son by her side after a battle with cancer.

Marilyn was born March 13, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Clara (Saffran) Rietz. She grew up in Oconto, Wisconsin and continued her schooling in Green Bay, where she was introduced to Chester J. “Chet” Dahl, Jr. They were married in November of 1961 and lived in Shawano. Marilyn worked as a Deputy Clerk in the Shawano County Clerk of Courts Office. In 2006, she moved to the home she and Chet built near Bowler. After Chet passed away she lived there independently, enjoyed giving wildlife reports to her family, playing mahjong with friends, playing handbells with the Zion Lutheran Joyful Ringers, attending Badger football games, traveling, working jigsaw puzzles, and feeding the birds, especially the hummingbirds, and keeping her lawn mowed. Most of all, Marilyn cherished spending time with family and friends. Her love, kindness, and generosity abounded for those close to her.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Susan (Daniel) Morzewski and Chester (Tonya) Dahl, III; five grandchildren, Amanda (Christopher) McRae, Emily (Joseph) Morzewski, Stephanie (Mark) Morzewski, Gavin (Samantha) Dahl, and Grace (Steve) Dahl; step granddaughter, Harmony; and great-grandchildren, Iris, Theodore, and Violet. These people filled her with pride and joy. She is further survived by her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy and James Grimm, nieces, and nephews.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Chet; sister, Carol Rietz; brothers, Charles (Audrey) Rietz and Roger (Marcia) Rietz; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John (Mary) Dahl.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with Richard Menning officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the funeral home from 11:30 am until the time of service. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano.
