Obituary

Marlene "Cookie" Delabrue, age 81, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Cookie was born in Keshena, Wisconsin on June 28, 1942, daughter of the late Marion and  Crystal (Miller) Dickie.  Cookie is a graduate of Shawano High School.  On October 28, 1961, she was united in marriage to Milton "Jigger" Delabrue at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit. They moved to Chicago and there they lived, worked and raised their family. Cookie worked for a number of years for the Chicago Chapter of The Arthritis Foundation. Coincidentally, shortly after being hired, she was diagnosed with debilitating Rheumatoid Arthritis which she struggled with most of her adult life. In 2006, the couple retired and moved into Jigger's childhood home in Neopit. When she was able, Cookie liked to go to flea markets and rummages. She also liked to take nature walks.  She had a special love for her dog, Toby and her cat, Alley. Throughout her life she often took in strays and ultimately they would become part of the family.

Marlene is survived by her children, Orlin "Louie" Delabrue and Yvonne "Fonzie" (Bill) Mazzeffi; grandchildren, Matthew Shiroma, Charles Delabrue and Maxine (Jesse) Delesco; cat and pal, Alley; and siblings, Ronald "Ronnie" (Correen) Dickie and Jeanette "Nettie" Waupoose. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A funeral service for Marlene will be held 11:00 am on Saturday May 18, 2024, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with Fr. Hanz Christian officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 am and continuing until the time of service. Burial will be at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery following the service.

The family would like to express their gratitudes to Correen Lewis for her endless kindness and support; to Cookie's favorite "landscape designer" Brian Ninham for making her surroundings picturesque; to Sport and Hootsie Frechette for their care and concern; to TiChanel Waupoose for her compassion and patience; and to Gert Delabrue for her heartfelt thoughtfulness and assistance with arrangements during this difficult time.
