Obituary

Marlin L. "Manzie" Waupoose, Sr., Menominee Tribal Member, age 64, of Keshena, passed away from illness on Thursday, February 6, 2025, in Neenah, Wisconsin.  Manzie was born on April 5, 1960, in Shawano, Wisconsin.

Manzie was united in marriage to his beautiful wife Jerilyn "Bedo" Shawano on July 16, 1994. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Neopit, Wisconsin.  He is the son of the late Constance (Grignon) Waupoose and Gordon Waupoose, Sr., from Neopit, Wisconsin.

Manzie graduated from Shawano High School in 1977. He continued his education at Northwestern Technical College obtaining a certificate in the Electrical Program and the College of Menominee Nation obtaining an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration.  He served his electricians apprenticeship at Proctor and Gamble in Green Bay.

Manzie was an Electrician by trade and was a small business owner of Rabbit Electric. He recently and proudly retired from the Menominee Tribe after 43 years of dedicated service in 2024 as Directors in Tribal Utility and Housing Departments.

Manzie enjoyed playing softball from his youth well into adulthood, he was well known as an exceptional athlete. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, completing crossword puzzles, watching political news, watching Gunsmoke, and spending time with his friends and family. He was a very respectful, giving, and helpful man with a big heart. There was not anyone he would not help or talk with as he appreciated the beauty of people and life.

Manzie is survived by his wife Jerilyn; nine children, Patricia (Brian), John Shawano, Phillip (Cheryl), Benjamin (Donna), Rosemary (Scott) Fowler, Miriam (Jeff), Marlin (Shanae), Jana and Dolores. Marlin was a loving grandfather to 28 grandchildren, Maliyah, Brian, Jr., Jace, Kacie, Delsey, Paul, Phillip, Aubree, Kendra, Shaniqua, Makenzie, Payton, Kaylee, Olivia, Mya, Lukas, Scott, Jr., Avahri, Madison, Xander, Caroline, Reys, Tristan, Jesse, Sean, Phillip, Mason and Alexis.

Manzie was the fourth oldest of six siblings in his family. His surviving siblings include, Mary Beth Pecore, David (Jill) Waupoose, Sr., Carmella Waupoose and Annmarie (Kenneth) Johnson, III; brothers–in-law, Gary Shawano and Dan Reiter; sisters-in-law, Ruth Waupoose, Gwen Shawano, Verna Reiter, Lynnette Shawano, and Tina Shawano; special uncle, Lowell "Chopper" Waupoose; special brother-in-law, Rollan Caldwell, Jr.; godmother Rose Gengler; and uncle and aunts, Lowell "Chopper" Waupoose, Sharon Waupoose and Mary Claire Grignon. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Marlin L. Waupoose Jr.; a granddaughter, Starfire Waupoose; his father and mother; brother, Gordon "Sonny" Waupoose; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harry and Lavina Shawano, Sr.; sister-in-law, Alberta Shawano; brothers-in-law, Wayne Pecore, Jr., Jerry Shawano, and Quinton Shawano; niece, Tricia Pecore; and great-niece Lily Lyons.

Funeral services for Manzie will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Neopit with Fr. Hanz Christian officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the Neopit Community Center from 8:00 am until the time of the service on Wednesday. A rosary will also be held on Tuesday February 11, 2025, at the community center at 6:00 pm.
