Obituary

Martha S. Homolka (Herold), age 99 of Shawano, formerly of Chicago, died on Friday, July 3, 2015. She was born on January 5, 1916, in Chicago, to the late Frank and Martha Herold. Martha, was the eldest daughter of a family of four children (Bill, Fran, and Ray). On June 15, 1940 in Chicago, Martha was united in marriage to Charles J. Homolka, who preceded her in death on April 12, 2006. Martha and Chuck shared a strong and happy marriage for 66 years. In 1944, Martha sent Chuck off to fight in France staying home taking care of baby Carl. After the war, Martha and Chuck had two daughters Marti and Jean, and the couple built a house on Sacramento Ave. Martha, an organized-numbers lady, was the center of the home; she was a cook, baker, money-manger, homework-helper, vacation planner, and superb seamstress creating doll clothes, wedding gowns, as well as draperies and slip covers. Martha was a mentor to many and a good wife, daughter, sister and friend. Vacationing at the lake with her family was a yearly event. After retirement, she travelled the world with Chuck; and in 2011, she moved to Wisconsin spending her remaining years as a woman of grace, alert and content. Martha is survived by her children: Carl (Vivian) Homolka of Bolingbrook, IL, Marti (Charles Chuck') Matyska of Cecil; and Jean Hill of Lee Summit, MO; 8 grandchildren, Lynn Ann (Larry) Burke, Mark (Tamara) Homolka, Gary (Ann Marie) Homolka, Mary (Jim) Wood, Kate (Lee) Page, David (Kari) Hill, Kristin (Jefferson) Killgore, Patrick (Jessica) Hill; 15 great-grandchildren, Madeline, Connor, Elizabeth, Ashley, Alex, Zach, Carolyn, Lindsay, Nicholas, Dane, Alex, Erin, Siri, Cadel and Rinny. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles and her parents, and siblings, Bill, Fran, and Ray. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday July 9th at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Westmont, IL with Father Rafal Wasilewski officiating. Visitation will be held on July 9th from 9:30 a.m. till time of service. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
