Marvin Emil Bahr, age 86, of Gresham, passed away in Appleton on Veterans Day, Friday, November 11 th , 2022. Marvin was born in Shawano County on September 13 th , 1936, son of the late Herbert and Edna (Janke) Bahr. Marvin grew up in Gillett and graduated from Gillett High School. He served his country honorably in the United States Army where he spent a year and a half of his service stationed in Hawaii. On February 16 th , 1957, Marvin was united in marriage to Barbara Carson in Mosling, Wisconsin. Marvin earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. In his younger years he thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent ice fishing, traveling, and camping with his family. Marvin taught middle school math at Gresham School for 31 years, retiring in 1994. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time at home with Barbara, playing cribbage every morning before devotions and even "letting" her win their last game. He also enjoyed gardening, watching and feeding the birds, and taking numerous day trips. Marvin also served as Village Clerk in Gresham for 28 years and is a member of St. Jakobi Lutheran Church. More than anything Marvin loved being a husband, a father, a grandpa, and a great grandpa and cherished every moment he spent with his family.
Marvin is survived by: his wife of 65 years, Barbara; two sons, Arvin (Vicki) Bahr and Arthur (Kris) Bahr; grandchildren, Daniel Bahr and Joshua (Melisa Young) Bahr, Jaime Shaffer, Kari Anderson, and Cassidy Anderson; great grandchildren, Carson, Wyatt, Kathryn, Misha, and Keianna; his brother Allen Bahr; and a sister-in-law, Bev Gerritsen. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, including his very close friends, the Felckowskis-his "fake family".
He is preceded in death by a son Alfred, his parents, several sisters-in-law, and daughter-in-law, Cheryl.
A memorial service for Marvin will be held at St. Jakobi Lutheran Church at 11:00am on Saturday, November 26, 2022, with Rev. Travis Kleinschmidt officiating. Inurnment will be in Zion Rest Cemetery in Gresham. Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30am until the time of the service.
