Obituary

Mary Suzanne "Suzie" Habeck-Schafelke, age 84, passed away on April 17, 2024.  Suzie had a strong faith and was truly excited to reunite with her son Bobby and her daughter Cindy in heaven.  Suzie was born on September 15, 1939, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Lloyd and Madge (Linquist) Jung.  Suzie worked a rural postal route for the post office for 20 years and was proud to be the first female carrier in Shawano County. On September 2, 1978, Suzie was united in marriage to Leon Habeck in Las Vegas. Leon preceded her in death on October 29, 1997. Suzie then married Jerry Schafelke on April 29, 1999. Jerry preceded her in death on January 19, 2021. In her free time Suzie enjoyed shopping and watching game shows and sports, some of her favorites were the Packers, Badgers, and Michigan State basketball but she loved and would watch all sports. The most important thing to her was her beloved family, whom she was extremely proud of.  Family holidays always included some of Suzie's famous snacks.  Her smile could light up a room and she had the ability to connect with people on such a loving level.  She made many treasured friendships over the course of her life.  She was a selfless and generous woman who was always thinking of others.  Giving to others was her whole life and she loved to give anonymously.  Suzie was one of a kind and made an impact on so many, she will be dearly missed and always remembered.

Suzie is survived by: three children, Rick (S.O. Laura Acra) Bayer, Linda (Jeff) Engel and Nancy (Greg) DeGrave; and stepchildren Greg (Mary) Habeck, Beth (Michael Peters) Habeck, Terrie (Greg) Reitzner, Mike (Cindy) Schafelke, Sue (Neal) Klemme, and Sandy (Todd) Buman. She is further survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and of course her many lifelong girlfriends.

Suzie is preceded in death by: husbands Leon Habeck and Jerry Schafelke; her son Robert J. "Bobby" Bayer; her daughter Cindy Monroe; stepson Dave Habeck; and former husband James Bayer.

A funeral to celebrate Suzie's life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with Deacon James Lonick officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:30 am and continue until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Memorial donations can be directed to St. Jude's Children Hospital.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Compassus Hospice for their wonderful care.
