Obituary

Mary "Helen" Montoure, age 85 of Shawano, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 in Shawano. Born on July 14, 1927 in Green Bay, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Gladys (Zahrt) Kimball. On August 15, 1953 she was united in marriage to Lee Robert Montoure in Seymour. Helen worked for many years as a teacher, in locations such as a one room school house in Red River, in Oneida, and for NWTC. When not teaching, she enjoyed the company of a good book and was very active in her community, serving as the president of the Shawano City County Library Board for over 20 years and as a board member of the Nicolet Federated Library System. Helen was also a founding member of the Shawano DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) as well as a founding member of the Navarino Nature Center and was an active member of the Shawano Women's Club and the Shawano County Historical Society. In her free time she enjoyed gardening and was always willing to help her daughter and son-in-law with their flower farm. Helen also liked canning, cooking, researching genealogy and was a lover of nature and animals. Helen is survived by: 3 daughters, Mary Lee (Reed) Johnson of Cecil, Julie Montoure Bottois of Shawano, Beth (Dave) Westfahl of Fremont; a grandson, Nicholas of Shawano; a brother, William Kimball of Lansing, MI; a sister, Phyllis (Lyle) Sconzert of Green Bay; and 2 sisters-in-law, Jeanette and Joan Kimball both of Seymour. Helen was preceded in death by: her husband, Lee on July 2, 1980; her parents; 2 brothers, Charles and Robert Kimball; and a sister, Doris Woldt. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Ted Andrada officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will be held at the funeral home in Shawano on Friday from 4-7pm and on Saturday from 10am until the time of the service. www.swedbergfuneralhome.com
