IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Lucille
Schabow
September 3, 1943 – June 4, 2025
Heaven shone brighter on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, as Mary Lucille Schabow, age 81, joined her Savior. Mary was born on September 3, 1943, in Shawano, daughter of the late Ruebin and Lucille (Schmeisser) Umland. Mary graduated from Shawano High School. On October 20, 1962, she was united in marriage to Arthur M. "Art" Schabow in Gresham. The couple spent a wonderful 58 years together before Art's passing in 2021. Mary worked at Gresham School as a library aide for several years. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years at Zion Lutheran Church where she was a faithful member and volunteered her time with the Altar Guild, Ladies Aid, and decorating the church for holidays. Mary served her community as the Gresham Village Treasurer, a long-time member of the Women's Club and a Cub Scout leader when her sons were young. In her free time, Mary enjoyed golfing and played for many years in golf league. She had a green thumb and spent hours tending to her flowers and garden especially her gladiolas. She cherished being at Armour's Pond with her girlfriends and family. A loving mother and grandmother, she will be deeply missed.
Mary is survived by: her children, Scott Schabow, Brett (Jennifer) Schabow, and Lanette (Jeff) Mayerl; grandchildren, Cole (Claire) Schabow, Sydney Schabow, Hailey Mayerl and Hudson Mayerl; and a sister, Jean Umland. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her siblings, Fritz Umland, Joanne Morrin and Richard Umland; and her parents, Ruebin and Lucille.
A funeral service for Mary will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday June 7, 2025, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano with Pastor Steve Conradt officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Burial will be in St. Francis Solanus Cemetery in Gresham. Memorials may be directed to the Gresham Scholarship Fund.
Mary's family would like to extend a special thank you to Mary's angels on earth, the staff at Emerald Bay in Hobart, Wisconsin (especially Stacy) and the staff of St. Croix Hospice for their amazing care.
