IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Jane
(Spantikow) Larsen
March 9, 1926 – July 26, 2023
Mary Jane (Spantikow) Larsen peacefully entered into eternal life Wednesday July 26, 2023, at the age of 97, succumbing to a stoke she suffered in Shawano on Monday. Mary Jane was born March 9, 1926, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin the 5th of 9 children to Barbara (Lilla) and Paul Spantikow.
Growing up in Milwaukee, Mary Jane attended St Michael's Catholic grade school where she walked 9 blocks home every day for lunch. Later, she attended Girl's Tech in Milwaukee for 2 years. Mary told her children stories about the depression, WWII and adventures with her girlfriends. Her first official job was at Schuster's Department Store, a place she really enjoyed working.
Mary Jane met Robert L. Larsen at a dance hall in Hales Corners, getting there by streetcar. They were married June 12, 1948, at St Michaels Catholic Church in Milwaukee. She then moved to the Larsen farm in Raymond Center Racine County, Wisconsin. She learned how to take care of chickens, feed the cows, drive a tractor, and did lots of canning and freezing of vegetables and fruit. Sunday afternoons on the farm often meant relatives visiting with card playing, lots of laughter and wonderful meals. Mary Jane and her husband ran the dairy farm for 38 years, moving to Shawano after the death of her husband to be closer to her daughter's family.
As a mother, Mary Jane supported her children's endeavors in 4-H, sports, and other school activities. She was active in Christian Mothers at St Louis Church. Later, Mary Jane enjoyed vacations in California, Arizona, and Florida during the winter, and traveling to various locations in the United States throughout her years, with the Grand Canyon helicopter ride being a highlight. Sewing, quilting, reading, fishing, and bingo at the casino were her favorite hobbies. Mary Jane was a Packer fan and bragged that she was also a Packer stockholder.
Mary Jane is survived by her children, Sharon, David, Janet (John) Campbell, and Janice Larsen; her grandson, Paul (Naomi) Campbell; great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Margaret Campbell, and many nieces and nephews.
Mary Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert; her brothers, Elroy, Elmer Harold, Arthur, James and John; her sisters, Jeannette (Bailen) and Shirley (Kane/Reuteler); grandson, Wayne Campbell; and all her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Visitation for Mary Jane will begin at 11:00 am until the time of service on Tuesday August 1, 2023, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 13207 County Rd G, Caledonia, WI, followed by Catholic Requiem Mass at noon. Burial will be at the St. Louis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charities.
