Obituary

Matilda M. "Tillie" Kallies went to be with Jesus on Saturday, March 13, 2021.  Matilda May Kallies was born April 25, 1927 in St. Leon, Indiana to Edward and Elsie (Beneker) Oehlman.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sunman, Indiana.  She graduated from Guilford High School in 1946 and attended Capital University in Columbus, Ohio for 2 years and then Concordia Teachers' College in River Forest, Illinois.  In 1949 she received a call to teach 1 st grade at St. Paul Lutheran School in Bonduel. Her first year she had 43 first and second graders. It was there she met an area farmer; William Kallies and he became the love of her life.  They were married at St Paul's in 1952.

Tillie's greatest joys in life were serving the Lord alongside her beloved husband and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  In addition to serving the Lord as a teacher at St Paul's for 31 years, she served in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League where she was an officer at both local and zone levels, the Lutheran Hour Ministries, church choir, altar guild, and the Evangelism and Stewardship committees.  She was a quilter for many years and taught Bible classes at Meadow View Assisted Living and Hillside Apartments.  She was a member of the Shawano County Homemakers for over 50 years.

Tillie is survived by; her loving husband of 69 years, Bill Kallies and their six children; Christine (Roy) VanDeHei, Pauline (Bernie) Oskey, Jane (Tom) Watermolen, Joyce Utter, Randy (Julie) Kallies and Tim (Debbie) Kallies. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; one brother, Edward Oehlman and his wife Martha, and sisters-in-law, Shirley Oehlman and Harriet Fester and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by; her parents; two sisters and two brothers and their spouses; one son-in-law, Doug Utter; a granddaughter, Brittany Slack and an infant great-grandson, Zachary Meier.

A funeral service for Tillie will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 20, 2021 with Rev. Timothy Shoup and Rev. Mark Palmer officiating.   Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Friday, March 19, 2021 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm and again on Saturday, March 20, 2021 from 9:00 am until time of service.  In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to "Hope in Him" at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School and the Lutheran Hour Ministries.  St Paul's church observes social distancing guidelines.  Swedberg Wendt funeral home is assisting the family.

The family sends special thanks to the staff at ThedaCare Medical Center Shawano and ThedaCare   Home Care Hospice for their wonderful care and concern.
