Obituary

Maureen A. Murphy, 77, of Bowler, died Friday, May 2, 2014, at Bohlman Manor in Birnamwood, WI. Maureen was born April 14, 1937, in Wausau to the late Maurice and Audrey (Bickford) Cramer. She graduated from Newman High School in 1955. She and her late husband were members of the first graduating class at Newman High School. On December 28, 1955, she was united in marriage to the late Michael L. Murphy of Wausau. She first met her sweetheart Mike in kindergarten. After they were married, Maureen and Mike moved to Washington, D.C. where Mike was first stationed in the US Army. Maureen's first job there was as a White House Operator. Mike and Maureen were later stationed in Hanau, Germany. Maureen loved Germany. She found it quite interesting, as they saw all the damage from World War 2. They were also able to bring back some new friends to Wausau, who were able to gain citizenship with sponsorship from her grandmother, Angelina (Sloan) Cramer. In 1963, Maureen and Mike moved to Burlington, WI where Mike became a plant manager for Midland Cooperation. They moved back to Wausau after her husband was promoted to plant manager for Cenex/Land O'Lakes. Another promotion moved them to Alexandria, Minnesota, where they resided until retirement. Maureen was also a graduate from North Central Technical Institute as a draftsman in 1973. Her first job was to help draft plans for the new Wausau Hospital. In 1980 she changed careers and became employed in Airport Security at Central Wisconsin Airport. Maureen was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for 40 years. She served in many leadership callings, but her favorite calling was Young Women President. She truly loved serving the youth. Maureen is survived by: her sons and their wives, Steven (Sonya) Murphy of Cody, WY, Kevin (Anne) Murphy of Olathe, KS, and Brian Murphy of Bowler, WI; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by: a brother, Michael (Judy) Cramer of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; two sisters, Kathleen Glenetske and Colleen Cortright, both of Bowler, WI; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Murphy in 2006. Maureen loved her family with her whole heart. She was always available to guide them through any "storm or tribulation" with kindness and love. She gave of herself totally and enjoyed being with her husband always. Funeral services for Maureen A. Murphy will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 5405 Rib Mountain Drive, Wausau. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Maureen will be sadly missed for her wonderfully positive attitude, optimism, and caring spirit. We wish to give our heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Bohlman Manor, Birnamwood, WI. They all have shown much kindness and caring during her stay with them. www.swedbergfuneralhome.com
