Obituary

Mavis Lucille (Hafferman) Wells, age 82, passed away April 21, 2016 in Kenosha. She was born in Shawano to the late John and Elba (Wockenfus) Hafferman on February 26, 1934. Mavis resided in Shawano and Bowler, and graduated from Bowler High in 1952. After high school, she attended various technical schools for shorthand and computer training in Milwaukee. Mavis was married to Richard "Max" Wells on October 30, 1954 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Bowler. Max preceded her in death on October 18, 2001. They resided in Kenosha for 32 years with their family. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kenosha where she served on the Altar Guild for many years, and was a volunteer secretary. After moving to Cookville, TN, she served on the Altar Guild at Heavenly Host Lutheran Church for eight years. Besides being a wife and homemaker, she was employed in various secretarial and computer positions, which include: office manager for Dr. Ernst in Waukegan, IL; secretary for Baumann-Cook Real Estate in Winnetka, IL; data entry operator at the University of WI in Kenosha and Great Lakes, IL; computer operator at LeBlanc in Kenosha, supervisor over data entry at American Motors and Chrysler in Kenosha; and an office manager for Dr. Arthur Heinze and Dr. Thomas Heinze in Kenosha. Mavis retired from Chrysler and in 1995, she and Max moved to Cookeville, TN. Mavis enjoyed reading, bowling, and traveling.
Mavis is survived by: two daughters, Kathy (Terry) Million of Kenosha and Cynthia (Charles) Zanotti of Burlington; one son, Kevin (fiancée, Michelle Behrns) Wells of Mound, MN; two sisters, Genevieve Wells of Cortez, CO, and Alice ( Gerald) Alfheim of Gresham; one brother, Kenneth (Ruth) Hafferman of Bowler. She is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Max; her parents; and three brothers, Rolland, Lester, and Donald.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Peace Lutheran Church in Tilleda with Lay Minister Lois Graper officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Bowler. Visitation will be held at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm and again at the church on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
