Melanie M. VerHaagh, age 54, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023, in Neenah. She was born on July 19, 1968, to Diana Thunder and the late Melvin VerHaagh, Sr. in Antigo. Melanie was a graduate of Menominee Indian High School where she enjoyed playing softball, running cross country and playing basketball. She loved to cook and spend time with her grandbabies. Melanie worked as a waitress for many years, most recently at Paul Bunyan's Restaurant in Minocqua.
She is survived by her children, KenoQuaz (Walter Durant, Sr.) Cloud, Jeffrey A. Cloud, Paymewahtum (KayAnn Dixon) Cloud and JoAnne Marie Cloud; grandchildren, Osawanamakee, Kaywahsanukiew, Giwadnoquaw, Miskwaabik, Baby Jeffrey, Rah-Miyah, Wae Pae Awaehsaeh, Cassius-Lee, Kamaewin, Summer, Taylor, Kyah, Pitanaquit and Jolayah; her mother; the father of her children, Tad Cloud, Sr.; and brothers and sisters, Bernard Doud, Dewey Thunder, Melvin VerHaagh, Jr., and Deanna VerHaagh. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends including best friend Maggie Schlicting and family friend Lana Fox.
Melanie is preceded in death by her father, Melvin as well as other family members.
Traditional Big Drum services will be held at the Zoar Ceremonial building beginning at 5:00 pm on Monday, January 16, 2023, and continuing until leaving for burial in Zoar Burial Grounds at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.
