Melvin J. Beauprey, Sr., age 70, of Neopit, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011 in Antigo. Born on December 7, 1940, he was the son of the late Charles M. Beauprey and Philomena (Sheshequon) Thunder. Throughout his life, Melvin has worked at the Foundry in Sheboygan, at Menominee Tribal Enterprise, in construction, and as a Game Warden. He was one of the first original members of the Wolf River Singers. In his free time, Melvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycle, spearing, bear baiting, turkey hunting, and playing cards. He loved being in the woods and also enjoyed attending pow-wows where he would cook for the security guards and could listen to the music. Melvin is survived by: his significant other, Janel Wayka; 3 children, Myron "Bud" Wayka, Sr., Louise (Desmond Waukau) Wayka, Melvin Beauprey, Jr.; special nephew, Jarin Reiter; his ½ siblings on his father's side, Robin, Sheila (Randy), Luann (Curt); his ½ siblings on his mother's side, Leon (Tina) Wychesit, Walker Thunder, Jr., Gerhardt (Rogerine) Wychesit, Warren (Susie) Thunder, Twila (Clayton) Neconish, Vaughn Thunder; special friends, George Walters of Neopit, Myron Pywasit, Sr. of Zoar; Aunt, Cordelia Beauprey; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Melvin was preceded in death by: his daughter, Theresa Notinkey; his parents; uncle, Peter Beauprey; ½ siblings, Charles "Buckie", Frances and Sherry Thunder. Traditional funeral services will be held at the Zoar Ceremonial Building stating at 4pm on Thursday until the procession leaves for the cemetery at 2:00pm on Saturday with Mr. Isaac Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Neopit Cemetery. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting with the arrangements.
