Melvin Anthony "Sonny" Boyd, age 73, of Neopit, passed away at his home on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 surrounded by his family. Melvin was born on April 25, 1946 to the late Clarence Dickenson and the late Luella Boyd. Sonny was raised by his grandparents Alfred and Ethel Boyd. Melvin worked as a filer at the MTE Mill. He was an expert craftsman and wood carver who had a passion for carving pipes, many of which are located all around the world. Sonny enjoyed watching sports, especially football, baseball, basketball, and the UFC. He also loved spending time with his family and cherished his beloved grandchildren.
Melvin is survived by: two sons, Darwin Mahkimetas and Alfred Mahkimetas, Sr.; one daughter, Ethel Mahkimetas; two step-children, Diana Williamson and Sophie Forrest; twelve grandchildren, DeSean, Seirra, Dennis, Darwin, Leon, Sundown, Kaya, Alfred, Jr., Eagle, Aryanna, Antonio, and Atticus; three great-grandchildren, Liam, Mayiana, and Nevaeh June; and sisters, Roxanne (William) Bigfire, Karen Beauprey, Kathleen Boyd, Donna Carrol, Marnie Stately, and Meredeth Logan. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Clarence "Louie Fly" Dickenson and Luella Neconish; his grandparents who raised him, Alfred and Ethel Boyd; one son, Calvin Mahkimetas; one grandson, Jordan; his siblings, Eunice Powell, Wilda Warrington, Venita Moreno, Wilene Wesho, Mabel Rose Boyd, Sharon Boyd and a brother in infancy; as well as his significant other, Jocelyn "Junebug" Forrest.
Funeral Services for Melvin will be held at 2:00 pm, on Friday, September 6, 2019, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit with Fr. Joel Jores officiating. Visitation will be held at the Karen Beauprey Residence located at N2086 Hickory Road in Middle Village from noon on Thursday, September 5, 2019 until the procession leaves for the church on Friday. A parish wake service will be held at the Beauprey Residence at 7:00 pm on Thursday.
