Merriel C. Niles, age 85, of Shawano passed away on Monday June 9, 2025, in Embarrass. Merriel was born on December 12, 1939, in Wausau to the late John and Laona (Helke) Thiede. On July 11, 1959, she was united in marriage to Alfred Niles in Ringle, Wisconsin. Together the couple ran Tilleda Falls Campground for 29 years and during that time she drove school bus for the Bowler School District. Merriel was a hard-working mother; when she could find time she enjoyed traveling with Alfred. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and supporting them. Merriel was a proper woman, tough and down to earth but was a kind and giving woman.

Merriel is survived by her husband of 66 years, Alfred; son, Jeff (Christine) Niles; grandchildren, Jesse Linde, Cody Linde, Kyle (Angelina) Niles, Zach Niles, James Von Deck, Walker Rasmussen, Logan Niles, Lorella Von Deck and Emily (Mason) Zimmerman; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Tina Niles. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Merriel is preceded in death by her children, Lori Niles, Brenda Niles, Scott Niles and Sara Rasmussen; siblings, Merceda, Marilyn and Jack; and parents, John and Laona.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
