Michael Lee Martzke, age 62 of the Town of Wescott, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at his home. Born on May 11, 1951 in Shawano, he was the son of Eldor and Norma (Buettner) Martzke. After graduating from Shawano High School in 1969, Mike worked on the family farm near Red River. On May 17, 1987 he was united in marriage to Karen Gumaer at the First Presbyterian Church in Shawano. The couple farmed the Martzke Homestead, 4th Generation Farm until retiring when the couple moved to their home on Shawano Lake. Mike was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church in Red River and a past member of the Red River Sportsman Club. He enjoyed spending time with his pets and his family as well as being outdoors, hunting, fishing and playing pool and cards with his friends who would affectionately refer to his as "Hubie." Mike is survived by: his wife of 26 years, Karen; his parents, Eldor and Norma; his sister, Pam (Rick) Sperberg of Shawano; sister-in-law, Roxy Martzke; nieces and nephews, Jason (Karyn) Martzke, Craig (Brandi) Sperberg, Amber (Greg) Riesenberg; and great nieces and great nephews, Nolan, Cameron and Jaelyn Martzke, Emma Jones, Brock and Baylee Sperberg, and Brett, Barric and Braxton Riesenberg. Mike was preceded in death by his brother, James Martzke; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Marge Gumaer; aunt, Adelaide Gumaer; and his paternal and maternal grandparents. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, December 2, 2013 at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Charles Daily officiating. Burial will be in the Lake Drive Cemetery in the Town of Wescott.
