Obituary

Michael Lee "Cheese Man" Waupekenay, age 51 of Shawano, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 in Green Bay.  He was born on February 18, 1969 to Gerhardt C. Wychesit and Mary E. Waupekenay in Chicago, Illinois.  Michael was an exceptional chess player in his youth and made it to state.  He also went to state for cross country for the Menominee Eagles.  Michael stood up in nine weddings while being best man for five of them.  Michael was never seen without wearing his smoking vest. One of his favorite things to do was play his favorite Keno machine while listening to the band play. Michael is remembered for being quite the storyteller, having a great sense of humor, being very friendly, and teasing his family and friends.  He was an avid Chicago Bears fan.  He was an animal lover and loved his chihuahua, Princess.  Michael loved his family and was seen at everyone's events.  He was very active in the lives of his nieces and nephews.

Michael is survived by his parents, Gerhardt (Rogerine) Wychesit and Mary (Eugene) Jorgenson; fiancé, Grace Jones; siblings, Michelle (Richard) Enno, Sherry (Audie) Murphy, Misty (Daniel Wayka) Wayka, and Shandel (Larry Paukstat) Wychesit; step brothers and sisters, David Jorgenson, Rachael Jorgenson, Daniel Jorgenson, Christian (Flo) Daniels, Candice Daniels and Patrick Daniels; nieces and nephews, Ashley, R.J. Enno, Dylan, Audie Jr., Tara, Tricia, Mehayah, R.J. Wayka, Gabriella, Gracie, Gage, Gloriana, Evelyn and Gavin.  He is further survived by great nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Michael is preceded in death by his stepbrothers, George Daniels and Robert "Peeks" Daniels Jr.; nephews, Baby, Gerhardt, Xavier and Aaron; maternal grandparents, Cecilia Neconish and Joseph Waupekenay; and paternal grandparents, Walker Pete and Philomena Thunder.

Funeral services for Michael will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 27, 2020 at Zoar Ceremonial Building in Zoar with Pastor Matt Golie officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at the Zoar Ceremonial Building from 5:00 pm until the time of services on Friday.
