Michel C. 'Mike' Schuler of the Town of Wescott passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving wife on August 18, 2018 at the age of 75 after fighting a courageous battle with leukemia. He was born June 27, 1943 in Manitowoc, WI, the fourth of five sons to the late Fredrick 'Fritz' and Evelyn (Kraft) Schuler. He graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School.
Since moving to the Town of Wescott he has touched the lives of many people from opening a restaurant, Schuler's Rustic Inn, where friends and family gathered to serving his community. He was the Chairman of the Town of Wescott for 30 years, the longest serving chairman in the town's history. He was president of the Shawano Lake Sanitary District and Wolf Treatment Plant for 26 years as well as chairman of the County Solid Waste Management Board since its inception. Mike was president and CEO of the corporation that owns the Elizabeth Street Business Complex. He served on the Shawano County Board for 12 years and was instrumental in starting the Drug Take Back program in Shawano County in 2008 as well as setting up the drug drop boxes. Mike was also a member of the newly created Drug Task Force Committee. He and Melissa volunteered at Navarino Nature Center and were on the Toys for Tots Committee.
Those left to share his memory are: his beloved and devoted wife of 33 years, Melissa, who was by his side as he fought to overcome his illness. His positive attitude never wavered. He is further survived by: his daughter, Rhonda Schuler of Green Bay; his son Craig (fiancée, Nicole Leanna) Schuler of Green Bay; granddaughter, Mychaylla (Andy) Loret of Green Bay, who also helped with his caregiving at home; grandson, Montana Diehm of Luxemberg; four brothers, Douglas 'Doug' (Marjorie Hicks) Schuler of Colorado, Robert 'Bob' (Elaine) Schuler of Clintonville, Richard 'Dick' (Gloria McPherson) Schuler of California and Fredrick 'Fred' (Jan) Schuler of Milwaukee. Also surviving are his father-in-law, Carl Bowen of Shawano; sister-in-law, Colleen (Don) Black of Lexington, KY; brother-in-law, Jay (Lisa) Bowen of Green Bay; as well as many special nieces and nephews.
Family and friends can gather at the Town of Wescott Office, N5794 Old Keshena Road on August 27, 2018 from 2:00 – 6:00 pm for Mike's last Town Board meeting. Final agenda items will include sharing stories and memories supporting each other and celebrating the life of a great husband, father, friend and mentor.
