Milton Roy Nordwig, age 93 of Leopolis, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at a local nursing home. Born on February 25, 1920 in the Town of Herman, he was the son of the late Henry and Ida (Schroeder) Nordwig. Milton lived his entire life in Shawano County. At the age of 5, he moved with his parents to the family farm where he lived until his passing. He graduated from Marion high School in 1939 and then attended the UW-Madison Agricultural Short Course Program. On September 22, 1945 he was united in marriage to Mabel Huebner at St. John Lutheran Church-Hermansfort. After marriage he took over farming operations from his father and also worked as a milk hauler at Badger Co-Op. In 1973 he became an agent and director with Pella Mutual Insurance for 25 years. In retirement, Milton enjoyed repairing equipment, working on various building projects, and telling stories about the past. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church-Hermansfort where he served as Mission Treasurer for several years. Milton is survived by: his wife of 67 years, Mabel; 4 children, Sally (Gary) Cerveny of Greenfield, Gary (Camille) Nordwig of Westlake, OH, Sandy (J.P.) Abenstein of Oronoco, MN, Greg (Sue) Nordwig of Leopolis; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, David (Shirley) Nordwig of Clintonville; and a sister, Inez Schilling of Green Bay. Milton was preceded in death by: a granddaughter; his parents; 5 sisters; and a brother. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, July 27, 213 at the St. John Lutheran Church-Hermansfort with the Rev. Roland Golz and Vicar Steve Conradt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30am until the time of the service.
