Strassburg
July 14, 1940 – August 29, 2022
Myrene Ruth (Lemke) Strassburg, age 82, of Shawano, died on Monday, August 29, 2022 at Evergreen Care Center under Unity Hospice care. She was born in Madison on July 14, 1940 and was adopted by Clarence and Arietta Lemke at two years of age. After graduating from Shawano High School in 1958, Myrene worked at Schultz Bros. Cafeteria. She also waitressed at the Bilmay Hotel until 1961, when she married Roger Strassburg. The couple lived in Caroline for four years, where their sons, Allen and David were born. Following the birth of their beloved sons, they moved to Antigo and then Medford. Besides being a devoted mother, she worked at Tombstone Pizza and Midway Telephone Company for 18 years where she was office manager for four of those years. She moved back to Shawano in 1996, where she and Roger remarried after being divorced for 18 years.
Myrene was a gifted musician and most enjoyed playing the organ, until failing health forced her to discontinue. She diverted her attention to the computer, where she spent many enjoyable hours creating calendars and greeting cards. She enjoyed canning, knitting, crocheting, and sewing, which she also had to give up due to poor health. Myrene was an avid animal lover, and always had a dog and one or two cats. She loved going for car-rides, taking in the scenery and beautiful homes, and grabbing lunch on the way back home. Myrene is a baptized member of Hope Community Church in Shawano.
Myrene is survived by her husband, Roger; her son, Allen (Barb) Strassburg of Kaukauna, and their sons, Peter (Katie) Strassburg of Cottage Grove and Daniel (Emily) Strassburg of Kaukauna and their children, Dakota Lynn Strassburg and Darrett Allen Strassburg; David's children, Alexander of Appleton and Danielle of Appleton; her sister-in-law, Elenore Lemke; and cousin, Lou Ann Jacobs (special friend, Milford Mohawk, Jr.).
She is preceded in death by her youngest son, David, who died of brain cancer in 2000; her parents, Clarence and Arietta; an adopted brother, Albert Lemke and her cousin, Norman Gore.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Hope Community Church in Shawano with Pastor Todd Bonnin officiating. Lunch will follow the service at the church. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am on Friday at the church until the time of service. Inurnment will be in St. Paul Riverside Cemetery in the Town of Almon.
