Opal E. Splittgerber, age 89 of Shawano, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at her home. Born on August 4, 1923 in Bowler, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Julia (Lang) Kroening. Opal grew up in the Tilleda area. On April 21, 1945 she was united in marriage to Melvin Splittgerber. Melvin preceded her in death on September 7, 1987. After marriage Melvin and Opal resided in Bonduel until moving to Shawano in 1987. They were members at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel. Some of the things Opal enjoyed were: flowers, gardening, feeding the birds, listening to polka music, and the occasional game of sheep head. She was also skilled in doing crafts, such as crocheting and embroidering. Most of all Opal loved taking care of her family, especially Stevie. Opal is survived by: 2 daughters, Audrey (Dennis) Pockat of Caroline and Julie Schuelke of Bonduel; 2 sons William and Lonnie Splittgerber both of Shawano; 4 grandchildren, Mary Pockat, Donald Pockat, Jennifer (Shawn) Tonn, and Joshua Schuelke; 2 great-grandchildren, Lillien and Gabriel; 2 sisters, Pearl Plauster and Faye Krause; 2 brothers, Alex (Joyce) Kroening and Harvey Kroening; and a brother-in-law, Leroy Splittgerber. She was preceded in death by: her husband; a son, Steven; a son-in-law, Dr. Peter Schuelke; a granddaughter; a brother Marvin Kroening; 3 brothers-in-law, Martin, Rolland, and Rudolph; and 3 sisters-in-law, Lucinda, Rosalind, and Caroline. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel with Rev. Timothy Shoup officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.
