Obituary

Orman Daryl Waukau III, Nahāēnesew Pahpēsew, lovingly known to his family as “Handsome” and “Baby Chief,” and to many lifelong friends as “The General,” passed away on May 6, 2026, leaving behind countless memories filled with laughter, love, and joy. He will be remembered for his big heart, booming voice, unforgettable humor, and the way he made everyone around him feel like family. Beneath his strong presence was the gentlest soul who loved deeply, hugged tightly, laughed loudly, and never missed a chance to make others smile. Whether he was joking around, sharing stories, or simply sitting with the people he loved, Orman had a way of making every moment feel lighter and every person feel important.

Orman was a man of many talents and passions. A fierce and gifted athlete, he excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and ice hockey, earning admiration from teammates, competitors, and friends throughout his life. As a standout quarterback, his leadership, confidence, and ability to rally those around him earned him the nickname “The General,” a name many of his closest friends proudly called him for years. He also proudly participated in the Indigenous Games, carrying both strength and pride wherever he competed. While he was talented at nearly everything he tried, golfing became one of his greatest joys and favorite ways to spend time with those he loved.

Beyond athletics, Orman was incredibly skilled with his hands. He spent years working alongside his father in roofing and carpentry, where he developed remarkable craftsmanship, dedication, and pride in hard work. He could build, fix, and create almost anything, always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and anyone in need. He also earned his Associate’s Degree in Natural Resources, something he took pride in as someone who deeply loved the outdoors and nature.

Orman cherished the outdoors and found peace spending time in the woods hunting and fishing. He deeply valued time spent with family and friends, many of whom became lifelong brothers to him over the years. His loyalty, humor, and genuine heart made him someone people naturally gravitated toward, and his presence could turn an ordinary day into one filled with laughter and stories. He was also an avid stock car racing fan who rarely missed the chance to follow his favorite drivers, Pete Parker and Tom Naeyart, a passion that brought him excitement and countless memories shared with friends and family.

Of all the roles Orman carried in life, being a father was the one he treasured most. His children, Kieran, Geena, and Xaiden, were his pride and joy, and watching them grow brought him immeasurable happiness. He loved fiercely and wholeheartedly, wearing his heart on his sleeve in a way that made everyone around him feel seen, valued, and cared for.

His deep voice, contagious laughter, playful spirit, and warm teddy bear hugs are memories his loved ones will carry forever. Orman’s ability to make people laugh, feel welcome, and forget their worries, even for a moment, was one of his greatest gifts.

Orman was preceded in death by his father, Orman Daryl “Chief” Waukau Jr.

Orman is survived by his beloved children, Kieran, Geena, and Xaiden; his mother, Catherine (Waupekenay) Waukau; his brother, Steven Waupekenay (Nan); sisters, Lynn Morrill, Carrie Waukau Grignon (Craig), Nicole Shelton (Matt), and Pamela Boivin (Doof); nephews Tony, Tino, and Stevon Waupekenay, Craig Grignon, Jaryd Wilber, Jaymin, Brayen, Prince Boivin, Caleb Shelton, Dominick Reyes, and Brendan Reyes; nieces Joetta Waupekenay, Sharissa and Cecelia Grignon, Rael and Katelyn Wilber, Priscilla and Paris Boivin, and Miranda Wright (John); many beautiful great nieces and great nephews; god parents, Gatie and Pam; along with his special loving friend, Jennifer Dowell.

He also leaves behind countless friends who became family over the years, all carrying cherished memories of his laughter, kindness, strength, and unwavering love.

Though his time here feels far too short, Orman’s spirit will continue to live on through every story shared, every laugh remembered, and every life he touched. He will be deeply missed, endlessly loved, and forever remembered.
